Trees play a major role in almost every ecosystem on earth which is one way to use this fundraising program in an educational way. But trees are also being used in communities around the country to prevent runoff, to improve the appearance of public spaces, and for their natural cooling effect, all of which can be turned into lesson plans about trees while the fundraiser is occurring.
Smencils are pencils made from recycled newspapers and are one of the most easy fundraising ideas with a simple educational message. The pencils are an incredibly successful fundraiser in and of themselves but it makes so much sense to teach students about what effect their recycling efforts can have for the planet using the Smencils as a visual tool.
