Tips for Planning Church Fundraisers

Outside of a very small group of individuals, there just aren’t a lot of people who are extremely experienced in planning, organizing, and managing church fundraisers. In fact, almost every single person who involves themselves in church fundraising does so in their spare time as a way to give back to the church. So it is completely understandable to want some help with planning church fundraisers.

Having a good plan in place before you ever start trying to raise money can make the whole process much easier and more productive so it really makes a lot of sense to spend your time up front rather than deal with headaches later on.

One of the first things you want to consider is what kind of church fund raiser do you want to do? You have a number of options including the traditional spaghetti dinner or car washes and you can also do brochure based fund raisers. One of the benefits of using brochure programs is that there is no initial outlay of money which can make a big difference for most churches.

Something else you want to consider as you are planning church fundraisers is when you will do it. Something most churches do not consider but that can make a big difference is when all of the school fundraisers are happening. The reason this is so important is that schools will have many, many more sellers than a normal church and that means some stiff competition for fund raising dollars. By doing your church fund raisers when the schools are not raising money you improve your chances of capturing the limited number of dollars available in your community.

You may also want to try planning church fundraisers around the holidays as that is an excellent time to raise money.  There is a teriffic opportunity to sell gift items with holiday fundraising ideas and most other groups are not in fund raising mode during this time.

If you are going to use one of our green fundraisers we highly recommend setting dates for when you want to start and end the sale and for when customers can pick up their orders. We typically suggest a 2-3 week time frame for you to sell and then schedule the pick up date about 2 weeks after that to allow for processing and shipping time.
